CATHOLIC (FULL MASS) WEDDING

CATHOLIC WEDDING (FULL MASS)

ENTRANCE

After the entrance song, the priest and the faithful remain standing and make the sign ofthe cross, as the priest says:

GREETING

Leader:    In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit

    People:    Amen.

Leader:    May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the presence of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

    People:    And also with you.

CONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS

Leader:    My brothers and sisters, as we prepare to celebrate the mystery of Christ’s love, let us acknowledge how we have fallen short in our relationship with God and with our relationships with family, friends, colleagues, and one another, and let us ask the Lord, and one another, for forgiveness. (Pause)

            Let us pray:

People:    Merciful God, I confess to you and to my brothers and sisters, that I sinned through my own fault, in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done, and in what I have failed to do; and I ask all the angels and saints, and you, my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God. Amen.

Leader:    May Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and bring us to everlasting life.

    People:    Amen.

    Leader:    Lord, have mercy

    People:    Lord, have mercy

    Leader:    Christ, have mercy

    People:    Christ, have mercy

    Leader:    Lord, have mercy

    People:    Lord, have mercy

Leader:    God, the Father of mercies, through the death and resurrection of his Son has reconciled the world to himself and sent the Holy Spirit among us for the forgiveness of sins; through the ministry of the church, may God forgive you and give you peace, and I declare that all of our sins are forgiven in the name of the Father, and of the Son+, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen

I have good news for you all, brothers and sisters, there is no one who is so bad, or who has gone so far astray, or who has missed the mark so much that he or she is beyond God’s awesome power to forgive.

Who is in a position to condemn you? Only Jesus Christ, and he died for you, he rose from the dead for you, he reigns in power for you, he intercedes for you.

Whoever is in Christ is a new creation. The old life is gone, a new life has begun. Friends, believe this good news: because of Jesus Christ, we are all forgiven.

Leader:    Since we are forgiven, let’s learn how God wants us to live:

Jesus said “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and most important commandment. The second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as you love yourself.’ The teaching of the entire Bible rests on these two commandments.”

The Apostle Paul said: “So as holy people whom God has chosen and loved, be sympathetic, kind, humble, gentle, and patient. Put up with each other and forgive each other. Forgive as the Lord has forgiven you.”

PROFESSION OF FAITH

Leader:    Let us state together the model of the Christian faith as it has been handed down throughout the generations:

People:    We believe in one God: the Almighty Father, maker of heaven and earth, and of all things that are visible and invisible.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus: the Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten by the Father, God from God, light from light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, one in Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he was born of the Virgin Mary and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered, died and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He is coming again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will never end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit: the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, with the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We expect the resurrection of the dead, and we expect life in the age to come. Amen.

(HYMN)

THE RITE OF MARRIAGE

Priest:    My dear friends, you have come together in this place so that the Lord may seal and strengthen your love in the presence of the church’s minister and this community. Christ abundantly blesses this love. He has already consecrated you in baptism and now he enriches and strengthens you by a special sacrament so that you may assume the duties of marriage in mutual and lasting fidelity. And so, in the presence of this assembly, which is mystically joined with all believers in all times and places, the holy church of our Lord Jesus Christ, I ask you to state your intentions.

The priest then questions them about their freedom of choice, faithfulness to each other.

The priest says to the groom:

Priest:    _____________(groom) have you come here freely and without reservation to give yourself to ___________(bride) in marriage?

    The groom says:

    Groom:     I do.

    The priest continues:

Priest:    Will you love and honor her for the rest of your life?

    The groom responds:

    Groom:    I Will

The priest says to the bride:

Priest:    ___________(bride) have you come here freely and without reservation to give yourself to ____________(groom) in marriage?

    The bride says:

    Bride:    I do.

    The priest continues:

Priest:    Will you love and honor him for the rest of your life?

    The bride responds:

    Bride:    I Will

    CONSENT

Priest:    Since it is your intention to enter into marriage, join your right hands, and declare your consent before God and his church.

    The bridegroom says:

Groom:    I,_________________ take you _______________, to be my wife. I promise to be true to you in good times and in bad, in sickness and in health. I will love you and honor you all the days of my life.

    The bride says:

Bride:    I,_________________ take you _______________, to be my husband. I promise to be true to you in good times and in bad, in sickness and in health. I will love you and honor you all the days of my life.

Priest:    You have declared your consent before the church. May the lord in his goodness strengthen your consent and fill you both with his blessings. What God has joined together, let no one separate.

    People:    Amen.

    BLESSING AND EXCHANGE OF RINGS

Priest:    May the Lord bless + these rings which you give to each other as the sign of your love and fidelity.

    People:    Amen.

The bridegroom places his wife’s ring on her finger. He says:

Groom:    ___________, take this ring as a sign of my love and fidelity. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

The bride places her husband’s ring on his finger. She says:

Bride:    ___________, take this ring as a sign of my love and fidelity. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

    NUPTIAL BLESSING

Priest:    My dear friends, let us turn to the Lord and pray that God will bless with his grace ___________________ (woman) now married in Christ to ______________ (man) and that God will unite in love the couple he has joined in this holy bond.

Father, by your power you have made everything out of nothing. In the beginning your created the universe and made humankind in your own likeness. You gave man the constant help of woman so that man and woman should no longer be two, but one flesh, and you teach us that what you have united may never be divided.

Father, you have made the union of man and wife so holy a mystery that it symbolizes the marriage of Christ and the church.

Father, by your plan man and woman are united, and married life has been established as the one blessing that was not forfeited by original sin or washed away in the flood.

Look with love upon this woman, your daughter, now joined to her husband in marriage. She asks your blessing. Giver her the grace of love and peace. May she always follow the example of the holy women whose praises are sung in the Scriptures. My her husband put his trust in her and recognize that she is his equal and the heir with him to the life of grace. May he always honor her and love her as Christ loves his bride, the church.

Father, keep them always true to your commandments. Keep them faithful in marriage and let them be living examples of Christian life.

Give them the strength which comes from the gospel so that they may be witnesses of Christ to others. May they live to see their children’s children. And after a happy old age, grant them fulness of life with the saints in the Kingdom of Heaven.

We ask this though Christ our Lord.

    People:    Amen.

    SOLEMN BLESSING

Priest:    May God, the Almighty Father, give you joy and bless you.

    People:    Amen.

Priest:    May the only Son of God have mercy on you and help you in good times and in bad.

    People:    Amen.

Priest:    May the Holy Spirit of God always fill your hearts with love.

    People:    Amen.

Priest:    And may Almighty God bless you all, the Father, and the Son, + and the Holy Spirit.

    People:    Amen.

Therefore, by the power invested in me by Almighty God, I proclaim that _____________ and ______________ are now husband and wife.

(Hymn)

LITURGY OF THE LORD’S SUPPER

Leader:    Friends, this is the joyful feast of the people of God!  The Bible says that people will come from East and West, and from North and South, and sit at the table in the Kingdom of God.  According to Luke, when our risen Lord ate with his disciples, he took bread and he blessed it and broke it and gave it to them. Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him.

This is the Lord’s table. Our Savior invites all those who trust in him to share the feast which is prepared. Every time you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the saving death of the risen Lord, until he comes again.

Leader:    The Lord be with you.

    People:    And also with you.

    Leader:    Lift up your hearts

People:    We lift them to the Lord

Leader:    Let us give thanks to the Lord our God

People:    It is right to give our thanks and praise.

Leader:    It is truly right and our greatest joy to give you thanks and praise, O Lord our God, creator and ruler of the universe. In your wisdom you made all things and sustain them by your power. You formed us in your image, setting us in this world to love and to serve you and to live in peace with your whole creation. When we rebelled against you, refusing to trust and obey you, you did not reject us, but still claimed us as your own. You sent the prophets the call us back to your way. Then in the fullness of time, out of your great love for the world, you sent your only Son to be one of us, to redeem us and heal our brokeness. For our sakes he opened his arms on the cross; he put an end to death and revealed the resurrection. In this he fulfilled your will and won for you all holy people. Therefore we praise you, joining our voices with choirs of angels, with the prophets, apostles and martyrs, and with all the faithful of every time and place, who forever sing to the glory of your name, saying:

People:    Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory.  Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

Leader:    Lord, you are holy indeed, the fountain of all holiness. Let your Spirit + come upon these gifts of bread and wine to make them holy, that the bread we break and a cup we drink may become for us the body and blood of our Lord, Jesus Christ. By your spirit make us one with Christ, that we may be one with all who share this feast, united in ministry in every place.

The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, and after he had given thanks for it, he broke it and said:

Take this, all of you, and eat it.
This is my body which will be given for you.
Do this in memory of me.

In the same way, after supper, he took the cup, and after he had given thanks for it, he gave it to his disciples, and said:

Take this, all of you, and drink it.
This is the cup of my blood,
the blood of the new an everlasting covenant.
It will be shed for you and for all
so that sins may be forgiven.
Do this in memory of me.

Leader:    Let us proclaim together the mystery of faith.

People:    Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again.

Leader:    In memory of his death and resurrection we offer you, Father, this life-giving  bread, this saving cup. We thank you for counting us worthy to stand in your presence and serve you. May all of us who share in the body and blood of Christ be brought together in unity by the Holy Spirit. Lord, remember your church throughout the world; make us grow together in love with one another. Remember our brothers and sisters who have gone to their rest in the hope of rising again; bring them and all the departed into the light of your presence. Have mercy on us all; make us worthy to share eternal life with all who have done your will throughout the ages. May we praise you in union with them, and give you glory through your son, Jesus Christ. For it is through him, with him, in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, that all glory and honor is yours, Almighty Father, forever and ever.

    People:    Amen

Leader:    Let us pray together for the coming of the kingdom as Jesus taught us:

People:    Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Leader:    Deliver us, Lord, from every evil. And grant us peace in our day. In your mercy keep us free from sin and protect us from all anxiety as we wait in joyful hope for the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

People:    For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and forever.

Leader:    Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts. In this peace we were called as members of a single body.

Leader:    The peace of Christ be with you all.

    People:    And also with you.

Leader:    Let us offer each other the sign of peace.

The people exchange a sign of peace according to local custom.

People:    Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world: have mercy on us.

Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world: have mercy on us.
Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world: grant us peace.

Leader:    This is the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. Happy are those who are called to his supper.

People:    Lord, I am not worthy to receive you, but only say the word and I shall be healed.

Leader:    These are the gifts of God for the people of God. Come, for all has been made ready.

Our communion is open to all baptized people who place their trust in Jesus Christ. Please dip the bread in the chalice.

The people who wish participate come forward and celebrate the Eucharist.

Leader:    The body of Christ; the bread of heaven.

    People:    Amen.

Leader:    The blood Christ; the cup of salvation.

    People:    Amen.

    PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION

Priest:    Lord, in your love you have given us this Eucharist to unite us with one another and with you. As you have made ______________ and __________ one in this sacrament of marriage and in the sharing of the one bread and the one cup, so now make them one in love for each other. We ask this through Christ our Lord.

    People:    Amen.

(HYMN)
